“Our underlying philosophy is ‘Take care of the customer, and the customer is going to take care of you’,” says Phil Doud, General Manager of John & Phil’s Toyota & Subaru. Phil’s sales staff is so dedicated to customer service, they will go outside the box to ensure a customer finds what they need.

“We once had a young lady come in looking for a car, and we could not meet her needs, so one of my sales team recommended her to another company.  She found and bought the car she needed there. Later, her boyfriend was looking to buy a truck and came here because he said he had never known a car salesman to send a buyer to another place.

“We have won the Presidents Award 15 years which is a customer satisfaction indicator.  It’s recognition that we are doing the job properly.  There are only 12 to 13 dealers — out of 1200 — who have won it that many times.  Everybody in this dealership is absolutely committed to taking care of the customer.

“Customers operate with their own set of parameters and it is our job to expand their horizons.  We expose them to the many ways there are to meet their needs and we provide them with choices:  How are they going to use it? How many drivers are there? Is it a second car? We take the time to help them consider all things; we then try to give them the best selection of options and answers to their needs.”

Phil also makes sure to give back to the community. “Our basic philosophy is to contribute toward health, fire, police and kids,” he says.  “We just did a scholarship worth $7,500 via a drawing in a Corvallis High School business class. We had a lot of fun with that.”  Giving back to the community is just an extension of Phil’s focus on customer service, and Giving Back is the key to his success.

“For me, being successful means exceeding the expected. Our goal with the customers is to take care of their needs because if we do that, we will exceed their expectations of us and we will be successful. “
